Veterinary Osteoarthritis Management in The Woodlands & Greater Houston

Osteoarthritis can affect a pet’s comfort, mobility, performance, and quality of life. At the Center for Veterinary Pain Management & Sports Medicine, we take a comprehensive approach to diagnosing and managing arthritis in dogs and cats, including active and athletic dogs with demanding lifestyles.

Rather than relying on a single treatment, we develop individualized, multimodal osteoarthritis treatment plans based on each patient’s condition, activity level, pain, and long-term goals.

A Multimodal Approach to Arthritis Care

Osteoarthritis is a progressive condition, but the right combination of therapies can help manage pain, preserve mobility, and keep pets active.

Depending on the patient, an osteoarthritis management plan may incorporate:

  • Pain medications and joint-support therapies
  • Rehabilitation and therapeutic exercise
  • Weight and activity management
  • Regenerative medicine
  • Interventional pain management
  • Shockwave or other advanced therapies
  • At-home exercise and mobility recommendations

Treatment plans evolve with the patient, allowing us to adjust care as their needs, activity, and condition change.

Osteoarthritis in Active & Athletic Dogs

Arthritis isn’t limited to senior pets. Sporting dogs, working dogs, show dogs, and other canine athletes can develop osteoarthritis following previous injuries, repetitive stress, joint instability, or years of high-impact activity.

Subtle changes in speed, endurance, gait, jumping, willingness to perform, or recovery after activity may be signs of discomfort. Our sports medicine approach considers not only pain relief, but also the dog’s movement, function, performance, and goals.

When Should Your Pet Be Evaluated?

Signs of osteoarthritis can include limping, stiffness, difficulty getting up, reluctance to jump or use stairs, decreased activity, changes in gait, or reduced athletic performance.

If your pet has already been diagnosed with osteoarthritis but continues to experience pain or mobility problems, a more comprehensive pain management approach may also be appropriate.

Working With Referring Veterinarians

We welcome referrals for patients who may benefit from advanced osteoarthritis and pain management, including pets with complex or persistent pain, declining mobility, previous orthopedic injuries, or performance-related concerns.

Our team works collaboratively with referring veterinarians to provide specialized evaluation and treatment while supporting the patient’s ongoing primary care.

Help Your Pet Stay Comfortable & Active

Whether your goal is helping a senior pet move more comfortably or keeping a canine athlete doing what they love, our team can develop a personalized plan focused on long-term comfort, mobility, and function.
