Treatment for Cranial Cruciate Ligament Disease
Postoperative rehabilitation is very important for CCLD patients, especially canine athletes. Postoperative rehabilitation restores the patient’s function and ability to the level the patient enjoyed prior to the injury. Our rehabilitation program first establishes goals and then uses different treatment modalities in order to reach the desired results. Our primary rehabilitation goals are:
- Pain management
- Limiting muscle atrophy
- Restoring coordination
- Improving strength
- Eliminating the joint dysfunction that resulted from both injury and surgery
- Maintaining and restoring cardiovascular function
Veterinary Rehabilitation Techniques
We use physical medicine techniques such as Myofascial Trigger Point therapy, massage, and a bioelectric whirlpool to augment pain medications in order to treat a postoperative patient’s pain most effectively. We can achieve our rehabilitation goals by combining an underwater treadmill with numerous therapeutic exercises.
