Veterinary Orthopedic Rehabilitation

The goal for our orthopedic patients is to reverse the disability they experience because of an orthopedic injury. The moment a dog or cat suffers an orthopedic injury they can no longer use the injured area or related areas properly. We observe the effects of this restricted, or diminished use, by seeing musculoskeletal weakening, decrease in cardiovascular conditioning and even decreased neuromuscular control. Healing of the injured tissues, with or without surgery, does not necessarily restore or reverse the problems caused by restricted or diminished use. In order to optimize your pet’s recovery, we design a formal rehabilitation program that will restore proper biomechanics, strength and cardiovascular fitness to bring the patient back to a pre-injury state.
